Christian Convicted of Disorderly Conduct For Praying In a Park.

In June of 2007, seven people were arrested for disorderly conduct during a homosexual festival that was promoted by local officials. Three of these people were immediately released from the case. The remaining four were convicted of disorderly conduct. Later, the convictions were overturned for three of these four people. One man, Julian Raven, remains convicted of the disorderly conduct charge, and is appealing the conviction.
Now one would initially assume that these Christians, arrested on disorderly conduct charges, had done something fairly serious, like being confrontational, yelling, screaming, etc. However, these seven people walked peacefully into the park, went to an area in front of a stage and began to silently pray. The arresting officer claimed that the arrest was made "because she was concerned that the pridefest participants might react with hostility to the Christians." The Assistant Police Chief made a statement to WorldNetDaily, who reported the story, that the "members were accused of a combination of allegations, including the 'intent' to cause a public inconvenience, a 'disturbance' of a meeting of persons, and obstructing vehicular or pedestrian traffic." He also said the accusations would include taking part in "any act that serves no legitimate purpose."
The full story by Bob Unruh of WorldNetDaily, can be read by clicking here.
This case, while it may appear to be small, clearly shows the trend that is occurring in this country in regards to singling out and condemning Christians for practicing their faith and exercising their constitutional rights. Many of the stories that I have posted in the News Watch section on this website attribute to this trend.
We must prepare ourselves, for this will only get worse. Jesus warned us of persecution, and told us that the world hates Him, and thus hates us.
