Ultrasound Blamed on Increasing Late Abortions in The Netherlands

It was reported today on the Dutch website 'nrc handelsblad', that late term abortions have doubled since the country has offered ultrasounds to every pregnant woman at 20 weeks. What does ultrasound have to do with late term abortions? Well, with ultrasound, it is possible to detect certain fetal defects, such as cleft lip, hydrocephalus (water on the brain), Down syndrome, spina bifida (split spine), and others. It is suspected that many women who have had ultrasounds, and discovered their babies would have defects, opted to abort.
This latest information about the doubling of abortions does not state why more women choose to have late term abortion, since it is not allowed to report the reasons. However, the timing with the increase and the state-offered ultrasounds in very telling. Further, doctors in the Netherlands can euthanize a newborn baby if the baby has a condition deemed "incompatible with life", but are required to report euthanasia. No euthanasia's were reported in 2008.
The full story can be read on the nrc handelsblad website by clicking here.
As shocking as all of this may sound, it certainly is nothing new, and the trend is growing across the world. Women abort their babies for much less serious reasons than birth defects. In China, a primary reason for abortion is the sex of the baby since it is much preferred to have a male child than a female, and the country has imposed a one-baby limit on all families. Added to this, there is a trend growing across the world where abortions are being performed for reasons such as hair color, eye color, or expected height, which can be determined by DNA samples. The main reason for abortions the world over is simply "I do not want it", which is just as sickening. But they tell us that a woman has the right to make decisions for her own body. I have one question. How can an unborn baby, who has it's own unique DNA, be classified as being the woman's body?
I could write pages on this subject, but all of it has already been said. Perhaps another time.
